Source: BCC to waive charges on refuse collectors – The Southern Eye
The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has said it will waive charges for all residents who take refuse collected during the Spring Clean Up programme to the landfill.
The local authority is running the clean-up exercise, meant to promote cleanliness in the central business district and suburbs that began on October 1 until today.
Bulawayo mayor David Coltart yesterday said residents who participate in the exercise will get exemption from council.
“Please note that BCC will waive charges for all residents who take refuse collected during the Spring Clean Up programme to the landfill. On any other day, if you have missed a collection or a resident cleans around their area, you can contact BCC offices to get an exemption. They can get exemption from Tower Block,” he said.
Council has since invited stakeholders to partner the city by selecting an area to clean or providing front end loaders or trucks for cleaning waste during this campaign.
Bulawayo is struggling to clean up the streets and residential areas mostly due to shortage of refuse trucks.
