CHIEF Bernard Marange has been left with egg on the face after the High Court overturned his decision to appoint “unpopular” Edward Zvinonetsa Marange to the post of headman.

The High Court ruled that the appointment was unconstitutional as the chief failed to consult other stakeholders.

Chief Marange had appointed Zvinonetsa Marange as headman to replace Manhu Marange.

Zvinonetsa’s appointment was met with resistance by villagers who claimed that he was not from the Marange clan.

Villagers claimed that since his appointment, the area had experienced mysterious deaths.

The matter was heard before High Court judge Justice Isaac Muzenda, who reinstated Manhu, saying his removal was unconstitutional.

Manhu’s lawyer Victor Chinzamba confirmed the court verdict.

“There was a court hearing concerning the appointment of Edward Zvinonetsa Marange. Manhu Marange challenged the matter at High Court in Mutare and he was reinstated. That is what I can say at the moment,” Chinzama said.
