The trial of a Harare man accused of raping his 10-month-old daughter and infecting her with a sexually transmitted infection (STI) has commenced before Harare regional magistrate, Mr Musaiona Shotgame.
The accused (name withheld), an artisanal miner at Jumbo Mine in Mazowe, faces two counts of rape and aggravated indecent assault and is out of custody.
The complainant in this case is the State, represented by the victim’s mother, a 35-year-old woman who is the informant who was giving evidence in court yesterday.
She told the court that the incident occurred on October 2, 2024, at around 11am when she had left the accused with the baby while she went to take a bath.
Upon returning, she found the accused rubbing his erect manhood on the baby’s private organ and mouth.
The mother confronted the accused, asking him what he was doing and accused allegedly told her that he was playing with the child to see if she had some feelings despite the fact that the couple had just engaged in sexual intercourse prior to the incident.
The mother immediately took the baby away from the accused and noticed a discharge on the child.
The court heard the mother began crying, but the accused allegedly ordered her to remain silent. He reportedly threatened her with death.
