IRISH ambassador to Zimbabwe, Liam MacGabhan, has called on President Emmerson Mnangagwa to ensure the country holds free and fair elections this year to facilitate economic recovery.

Speaking to NewsDay during a tour of the Irish government-funded Rutope Clinic in Bindura yesterday, MacGabhan hailed the positive developments that have taken place in the country over the past few months, adding the new administration should continue with the positive trajectory.

“A lot has happened in Zimbabwe in the last few months, which is very positive. We, as a government in Ireland, are keen to see that positivity continue and what we have said to the government is that we want to see free, fair and credible elections taking place,” he said.

MacGabhann said free and fair elections would send the right message to the international community and investors.

Rutope Clinic is one of the projects jointly funded by Irish Aid, UKAid,GAVI, Swedish Embassy and the European Union through the Health Development Fund, managed by the United Nations Children’s Fund in collaboration with the Health and Child Care ministry.
