Man drags nephews to court

Spiwe Sarakunze, Herald Reporter

A MAN from Harare, fed up with the alleged physical and verbal abuse from his brother’s sons, appeared in court yesterday seeking a protection order.

Mr Charles Jonga accused his nephews David and Justice Jonga of assaulting, harassing, and insulting him.

“David beat me and even threatened to shoot me with a gun. I now fear for my life,” Mr Jonga told the court. He added that the harassment occurred frequently, even in public, with the most recent incident taking place at a funeral.

Mr Jonga claimed that his nephews were so violent that they threatened to report him to the police if he resisted their abuse. He also alleged that David and Justice repeatedly insulted him, calling him a “wizard” who used goblins to cause their suffering and prevent them from prospering.

“David told me I’m not their father and should stay out of their lives. He also accused me of taking his money and threatened to burn me inside the house,” Mr Jonga said.

In response, David and Justice denied all allegations, counter-accusing their uncle of mistreating them.

After hearing testimonies from both sides, the presiding magistrate granted a protection order in favour of Mr Jonga.
