A WOMAN from Harare appeared before the civil court yesterday seeking a protection order against her two sons, whom she accused of physically abusing her.
Mrs Beatrice Banda, of house number 1005, Old Tafara suburb, told the court that her sons, Amos and Kumbirai, have repeatedly assaulted her whenever she assigns them household chores.
Mrs Banda recounted the harrowing abuse she has endured.
“I am now afraid to ask my sons to do any work because they beat me and even threatened to chase me out of my own house. I lost my teeth when Kumbirai assaulted me,” she said.
The distressed mother revealed that the abuse escalated to the point where she reported the matter to the Mabvuku police for intervention. She further told the court that her sons have threatened her life, with one of them allegedly swearing that she would die at his hands.
“I was told that one of them will kill me. My sons are very violent and abuse me constantly,” Mrs Banda said.
In addition to physical violence, Mrs Banda accused her sons of verbally abusing her, using obscene language and even calling her a witch. She also expressed frustration over their refusal to work, leaving her to provide for everything in the household.
“They do not want to work, and I am the one who provides for everything. I cannot live in peace in my own home because they are always threatening to kill me,” she pleaded with the court.
After hearing her testimony, the magistrate ruled in Mrs Banda’s favour, granting her a protection order to safeguard her from further physical abuse.
