Part of rehabilitated Harare Drive destroyed by burst water pipe

PART of a road that was recently rehabilitated along Harare Drive near Willowvale Road was destroyed by a burst water pipe.

This week, engineers from the Department of Roads under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development were deployed to the site, near Southerton Police Station, where the road has been affected by running water from a City of Harare burst water pipe.

The City of Harare was also on site repairing the burst pipe, after which the contractor, Tensor Systems, will repair the damaged road section.

In a statement, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development said: “Our engineers from the Department of Roads were on site at a section of Harare Drive near Southerton Police Station, where the road has been affected by running water from a City of Harare burst water pipe.

“Water is the enemy of any road infrastructure, as it slowly eats away at the road’s pavement layers, ultimately resulting in the collapse of the road surface,” the ministry said. “The City of Harare is already on site repairing the burst pipe, after which the contractor, Tensor Systems, will repair the damaged road section.

“We encourage all Zimbabweans, both individuals and organisations, to value public infrastructure and do everything they can to protect it from damage, as it benefits everyone.”
