A FORM Four student at St Faith’s High School in Rusape, Manicaland province reportedly committed suicide last Friday after fellow students allegedly accused him of practising satanism.

The student, Tatenda Kapuya (17) was buried in his rural home in Shamva on Sunday.

The school is run by the Anglican Church.

“It is with great sorrow that we give notice of the death of Tatenda Kapuya (17), a Form Four student who committed suicide at St Faith’s High School, Rusape on 22 September, 2022,” the church statement read.

“This was a result of a hostile environment that had sprouted resulting in a group of learners threatening to physically harm Tatenda Kapuya.  Kapuya had reportedly lied that a fellow student, Prince Bonyongwe, had gone missing and committed suicide.

“Upon discovering that Prince was still alive and well, the other students got agitated and labelled Tatenda a satanist and this led to a situation that was unsafe for Tatenda Kapuya,” the church said.

“The unfortunate incident that resulted in Tatenda Kapuya committing suicide happened the following day on September 23, 2022 around 1pm. No one among the administration, members of staff were aware that Tatenda Kapuya had returned to school. Tatenda was found hanging in his dormitory room by one of the students who rushed to notify the authorities who subsequently reacted swiftly, but it was too late to save Tatenda’s life.

Police also confimed the incident.
