RESIDENTS of Wedza, Mashonaland East have called for improved health delivery services in the district.

They made the call during a community meeting organised by the Wedza Rural Development Initiative Trust (WERDIT).

“The service we are getting from some of the staff at health institutions is pathetic. Sometimes, villagers walk for long distances to these health institutions only for them to spend the whole day without being attended to,” one of the participants said.

According to some of the participants at the meeting, poor service provision at health institutions was among some of the leading causes of conflict in the area.

The meeting resolved to appoint a committee to engage authorities over poor service delivery in the district, including health provision.

“In the area of health, we will engage with authorities and submit to them the concerns from villagers. Access to health is a fundamental human right and as WERDIT, we also work to ensure enjoyment of these fundamental rights,” WERDIT Director, George Makoni said at the meeting.

“Through these peace platforms, we strive to bring communities together and identify areas of conflict and at the same time, we also strive to come up with ways or strategies through which these conflicts can be addressed.”
