Botswana President Ian Khama says he has no sympathy for former President Robert Mugabe who was forced by the people of Zimbabwe to resign on Tuesday. “He had no sympathy for his own people so why should I have sympathy for him?” Khama told the media. He alone of the SADC presidents has been consistent in his denunciation of the appalling human rights abuses that took place on Mugabe’s watch.

He also said Zimbabwe had the potential to be an economic powerhouse and said he did not think it would take long for the country’s economic fortunes to turn around.
