The construction of the US$95 million African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) African Trade Centre (HAATC) in Harare, which is set for completion by October, is being hailed as a significant milestone in Zimbabwe’s economic revitalisation.

The project has garnered commendation for its substantial contributions to skills transfer, employment generation and the enhancement of Zimbabwe’s appeal as a prime investment destination.

Speaking during a tour of the centre yesterday, Special Advisor to the President responsible for Monitoring and Implementation of Government programmes, Dr Joram Gumbo, highlighted the project’s multifaceted benefits .

He underscored the project’s role in providing employment opportunities, facilitating skills transfer and bolstering the tourism sector through its international conference centre.

“This facility is a very important facility. It’s actually a big milestone for Zimbabwe and the Second Republic. It is a facility that puts Zimbabwe on the market and the world map,” he said.

“On both a regional and international level, the facilities we have are exceptionally suited for such gatherings. This development arrives at a pivotal moment, as the investors behind this facility have committed nearly US$1 billion to Zimbabwe, aiming to revitalise our industry.”

Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province, Charles Tawengwa, reflected on the project’s scale and its impact on the economy.
