ZANU PF legislator for Gokwe-Nembudziya, Justice Mayor Wadyajena, was arrested in Victoria Falls at the close of the party’s national conference for insulting the First Lady Grace Mugabe.

He appeared in court Monday and was bailed to next year.

Wadyajena, 35, of Borrowdale Brooke in Harare, was arrested following comments he allegedly made to another Zanu PF member Jimayi Muduvuri when they met in the Victoria Falls town centre.

Muduvuri’s car reportedly had a poster of Grace Mugabe with the inscription: ‘Munhu wese kunamhamha’, and Wadyajena allegedly told him he was an idiot for moving around with the message.

Wadyajena was not asked to plead to criminal insult on an alternative charge of conduct “likely to provoke the breach of peace” when he appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Lindiwe Maphosa Monday.

He was released on $800 bail and ordered to report once every week on Mondays at Borrowdale Police Station.

The legislator was remanded out of custody to January 5 for start of trial.

Listen Nare, while prosecuting, told the court that Wadyajena insulted Muduvuri who is from Kadoma in Mashonaland West when he saw his car with Grace Mugabe’s poster.

“The two are members of Zanu PF and were in Victoria Falls attending the party’s 15th Annual People’s Conference,” said Nare.

“On December 11 at about 9:45, Muduvuri was driving towards Elephant Hills Hotel along Parkway Drive in his Mercedes Benz ML320 which had pictures of the First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe with words ‘Munhu wese kuna mhamha’ written below the pictures.”

The prosecutor said Wadyajena, who was standing beside his own vehicle shouted: “Iwe Jimayi urimboko musatanyoko wako namhamha vako ivavo.

“Unongoti munhu wese kunamhamha seyi. Pfutseki, get away (Jimayi you are an idiot and that mother of yours. Why do you always say everyone to mother? Get away!”

Muduvuri later reported the matter to the police resulting in Wadyajena’s arrest.

The arrest is seen as part of the factionalism which has rocked the ruling party.

Wadyajena is believed to be aligned to Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa while Muduvuri is aligned to the G40 group said be led by national political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere with the First Lady also part of it.

Wadyajena, who chairs the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment once had a fall-out with Kasukuwere in Parliament resulting in some youths in Harare calling for his ouster saying he is disrespectful.

Sources claim Kasukuwere pushed for Wadyajena’s arrest as he allegedly advised Muduvuri to make a police report.

Unbelievable. Can you imagine anywhere else in the world, except in our Zimbabwe, where such childish banter would have caused nothing more than a pitying smile. It is amazing how the childishness of our so called leaders has spread right through our society. We have a lot to learn about how real adults engage in politics…

@Ndonga, remember Zanu PF is very archaic, they major so much on trivial issues whilst the big issues remained untouched.

Someone could be thrown out of the party for this, which is how far behind the party is.
