President Robert Mugabe has reportedly sacked the energy minister, Dzikamai Mavhaire, and his deputy, Munacho Mutezo, from cabinet under unclear circumstances.

The two were linked to the faction led by Joice Mujuru, who is set to lose her post in both party and government following a spirited campaign by her foes in Zanu (PF).

The sacking of the two was made by the official Herald newspaper, which is reportedly controlled by the Emmerson Mnangagwa faction that has been competing with the Mujuru camp to succeed Mugabe.

The paper said Mugabe would this afternoon announce a new look cabinet.

He is expected to drop Mujuru as his deputy and name two new vice presidents.

Other unconfirmed media reports indicated this morning that Mugabe had already fired 11 cabinet ministers, Mujuru among them.
