Rowdy Zanu PF supporters chase Mliswa

Sources said Mliswa was chased away by an angry mob unhappy with his “agenda”.

“The members from Muzvezve constituency were rowdy and threatened to beat up Mliswa whom they accused of dividing the party in the province,” a party member privy to the developments said.

Mliswa confirmed that the meeting ended prematurely after it was disrupted by a rowdy crowd.

He said he called off the meeting after realising the situation was about to turn violent and insisted that the meeting was not political.

Zanu PF National Consultative Assembly member Jimayi Muduwuri also denied that Mliswa had been chased away.

Mliswa said he had organised the meeting to rein in on a war veteran only identified as Bonde and one Simon Solo who allegedly were conniving with the son of Muzvezve MP Peter Haritotis to block plans to reduce his farm size.

Mliswa said he also decided to call off the meeting after the local leadership invited a suspended youth leader, Vengai Musengi, to the meeting.

Meanwhile, Musengi was formally suspended from the party by the provincial executive committee on Monday.

A letter dated August 20 and signed by Mashonaland West secretary for administration Kindness Paradza said Musengi would be barred from conducting party business until he appeared before a provincial disciplinary hearing on September 3. The meeting would be chaired by provincial vice-chairman Ziyambi Ziyambi.

“Please be advised that with effect from yesterday Monday 25th August the provincial youth chairman Cde Vengai Musengi has been prohibited from carrying out any activities to do with the Youth League,” said part of Paradza’s letter.

Musengi is accused of, among other things, insubordination after refusing to take orders not to open a youth bank account for the 21st February Movement.

“Moreover, whilst acting alone, you parcelled out donated cash meant for the 21st February Movement — in excess of
$1 000 — to members of your executive without the express authority from either the provincial chairman or the provincial treasurer, who are your superiors,” Paradza wrote.

According to the letter, Musengi leaked to the media a confidential letter by Mliswa to party secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa on the welfare of party workers.

Musengi is also accused of fleecing gold panners claiming he was surrendering the money to Zanu PF, which he did not do.

But Musengi, however, claimed his suspension was instigated by Mliswa to weaken the youth wing in the province.
