‘Lets have 365 days of activism’ says Tsvangirai

via Bulawayo24 NEWS | ‘Lets have 365 days of activism’ says Tsvangirai by Morgan Tsvangirai 02 December 2013

I know we are in the spirit of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence and I am heartened by the way Zimbabweans have come out in support of this noble campaign.

My prayer is for us to make this a 365-day campaign. And it is not only the physical violence we have to stop. The poverty pervading our communities – with rural girls and women being worst affected – is a form of abuse which should have no place in a resource rich country such as Zimbabwe. Of course, we now have a new Constitution that, for the first time, incorporates the Rights of Women, recognising that every woman has full and equal dignity.

This includes equal opportunities in political, economic and social activities. But without tangible actions to empower the women and the girl child, then the Constitution won’t be worth the paper it’s written on. We need a National Child Protection and Safeguarding system that will respond to the social welfare needs of the most deprived and vulnerable children and families, especially the girl child and elderly women.

The girl child and the elderly women in rural areas who are heading large families need additional support for them to cope with the extra-burden of caring for orphans. Because of HIV and AIDS, these groups are heading large families and should receive top priority in resource allocation. But this can only happen if we have a caring government, a government which puts the interests of the people ahead of self enrichment shenanigans.

@thembani – empty tins rattle the most and it’s the most foolish who hardly have any inkling of their level of foolishness to think everyone else should think, act and behave like them.

I Jenandebvu will support this worthy call to sensitize our government about this role played by women with little or without financial support from the government. I notice the government will be moving to pledge the mineral claims for security again current borrowing, eating future reserves and natural wealth today without benefiting tomorrow. Women should be considered first in this arrangement!

@Tichatonga – he has no clue of what’s going on at all. God forbid. He actually needs divine intervention lest he looses his mind. How can he pronounce that all people who support MDC are fools? People have a choice. One man’s poison is another man’s meat. He has to learn to co-exist. Looks like he is a perpetrator of violence. He should learn to embrace diversity, divergent thinking and individual differences. He needs complete BRAIN OVERHAUL, I think he is loosing it.

It is sad to learn how some people label tsvangirayi a failure. It looks like the task of getting Mugabe and Zanu out of power was a solo man effort! When Zanu lost in 2008 and held results for more that a month, what did we do about it as a nation? Let us not just buy the Zanu propagandists words – they mean nothing. There was a lot of noise about tsvangison not being educated and I wonder the level of education that Muzenda and Joyce attained. Ko Chinotimba?

Thembani was born angry and he is bitter about nothing. What has H. E. Tsvangirai said that deserves such an unwarranted attack? Enda unopengera kwawakarowerwa! Tsvangirai is fighting for you to be respected firstly as a human being and secondly as a Zimbabwean citizen with all the Rights enshrined in our constitution and internationally. Ask your self wat you have done for your country and see if you are worth to step on Zim soil?

Resistance against dictatorial rule is usually more successful when well coordinated and led by enlightened leaders i.e Mahatma Gandhi against the British. Such was his principled stance and dogged and fearless determination that people were prepared to risk their lives for the cause. I’m not sure if Tsvangirai is of that mould?
