via Villagers donate maize to Tokwe-Mukosi flood victims August 22, 2014 by Tatenda Chitagu
CHIVI villagers yesterday donated about 100 tonnes of maize to the Tokwe-Mukosi flood survivors who were recently forcibly removed from the Chingwizi holding camp and resettled at Nuanetsi Ranch in Mwenezi.
The flood victims, who were mainly drawn from Chivi and Masvingo South, lost most of their crops, household goods and livestock to the floods following heavy rains that lashed the country in February.
Speaking at the handover of the grain at the Chivi Rural District Council offices yesterday, council chairperson Killer Zivhu said it was high time they also helped their own and complement efforts by non-governmental organisations and other well-wishers.
Chivi district administrator Bernard Hadzirabwi welcomed the gesture saying it would set the pace for Masvingo residents to assist each other.
