Chiredzi Youth Forum members in conjunction with the Media Monitoring Project Zimbabwe (MMPZ), recently successfully held a workshop aimed at unpacking two essential national documents that is the national constitution and the economic blueprint ZimAsset.

Issues that were discussed include health, information, energy, shelter, water and sanitation among other pertinent issues that constitute the plight of youths in Chiredzi and the nation at large.

Both documents vehemently speak about basic necessities for sustainable livelihoods of youths.

Other issues that emerged in the workshop included the importance of establishment of recreational points in order to build up fit, young and vibrant youths suitable for national development.

“If somebody is not physically fit or active how can he or she contribute towards the development of the community?

“Youths are the backbone of any given nation as they make up the manpower base of any given country” said Marko Shoko Chiredzi Youth Forum Chairperson.

The youths are looking forward to work hand in glove with the Chiredzi City Council in a bid to ensure that a safe and hygienic atmosphere prevail in order to achieve a sustainable livelihood.

The youths in Chiredzi intend to push for an improved service delivery by means of voluntarily doing different activities like grass cutting.

“As the youths we are going to cut grass in the city of Chiredzi in order to reduce mosquito breeding.

“You might be aware that Chiredzi is a Malaria prone area and we would like to take an initiative towards saving lives in our area.

“We are going to compliment the government’s  efforts  in its bid to ensure a healthy environment, clean water and sanitation, energy generation , proper shelter and information infra-structure development,” added Shoko.

Meanwhile, youths in Chiredzi appealed to members of the public, well-wishers and the corporate world to assist them with funding so as to erect viable projects to raise funds and eradicate poverty in line with the ZimAsset.

“When donors want to fund a project in our area, the council should set aside a certain percentage before signing any memorandum of understanding” said Jeny Chigaranyika, one of YF Chiredzi members.

The workshop realized a sizeable crowd with a turn out volume of more than thirty youths in surrounding areas particularly in Ward 3 and 5.

The workshop was graced by Ward 3 Councilor, Mr. Taruvinga Matamba whilst MDC T ward 5 Councilor Mr. Munyaradzi Hatinahama failed to pitch up.    “We are jobless so we have decided to engage the city fathers to consider us.
