President Jacob Zuma‚ on behalf of the Southern African Development Community‚ has “noted with great concern” the unfolding political situation in neighbouring Zimbabwe.
Calling for restraint and calm‚ Zuma “expressed hope that developments in Zimbabwe would not lead to unconstitutional changes of Government as that would be contrary to both SADC and African Union positions”.
“The President has urged the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Defence Force to resolve the political impasse amicably and has urged the Zimbabwean Defence Force to ensure that the maintenance of peace and security in the country is not compromised.”
The statement added: “SADC will continue to closely monitor the situation and remains ready to assist where necessary to resolve the political impasse in keeping with established SADC Protocols and processes.”

This is a great comfort for the people of Zimbabwe. Perhaps we need a book titled Mugabe’s handlers? We thank Mr. Mbeki for imposing Mugabe on Zimbabwe after the election that the MDC won. Mr. Zuma and Mr. Mbeki are the giants of democracy in Africa. They followed Kissinger and Carrington’s lead and imposed Mugabe on Zimbabwe. Perhaps, 20 000 Matabele atrocities were not enough – and then a few million diaspora in South Africa? Perhaps Zuma and Mbeki have shares in the South African companies that now market their goods in Zimbabwe as a result of their collaboration with Mugabe to destroy the Zimbabwean economy? Perhaps Malema and the boys are correct when they chant “Or! Or! Or! Zuma fokkoffo!
