THE Zanu PF politburo yesterday declared that all party members suspended for being linked to the G40 faction last November would only be readmitted back into the party after five years.

Addressing journalists after yesterday’s politburo meeting, party spokesperson, Simon Khaya Moyo said the party also resolved to lock out all expelled members until after five years.

“Cde Oppah Muchinguri (Zanu PF national chairlady) gave a comprehensive report on disciplinary hearing. Members expelled and confirmed by the extraordinary congress in 2017 remain expelled and can only reapply if they wish to rejoin the party after five years. That is mainly those members of the G40,” he said.

“She (Muchinguri) will communicate to all provincial chairpersons regarding disciplinary cases affecting each province as agreed by the politburo. In other words, measures will be communicated to her on how these cases should be handled.”

Several party members, including former First Lady Grace and former ministers Jonathan Moyo, Saviour Kasukuwere, Patrick Zhuwao and Ignatius Chombo, and youth leader, Kudzai Chipanga, among others were fired from Zanu PF after the November military intervention that ushered in President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rule after years of nasty succession battles in the party.

Many more members were suspended after the November 19 central committee meeting that fired Grace and members of the G40.

Mugabe has now been linked to a new opposition party, National Patriotic Front, led by Ambrose Mutinhiri, while other alleged G40 activists have reportedly been secretly canvassing for readmission into the ruling party.

Moyo said the politburo also approved the party’s new regalia for this year’s general elections.
