PARLIAMENT has invited the public to nominate people to serve as Zimbabwe Electoral Commission commissioners to replace those whose term of office ends in March.

Short-listed candidates will be subjected to public interviews by the Parliamentary Committee on Standing Rules and Orders before the list of nominees was submitted to President Robert Mugabe.

“The committee on Standing Rules and Orders is hereby calling on the Public to nominate persons to be considered for appointment to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

“Current commissioners whose term is expiring on March 31, 2016 and who have served one six-year term are eligible to be nominated for one further term as provided for in section 238 (5) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe,” Parliament said in a notice.

Closing date for submissions is February 27.

Parliament said the commissioners must be chosen for their integrity, experience and competence in the conduct of affairs in the public or private sector.

Qhubani Moyo and Emmanuel Magade were sworn in as part of the nine-member body last year, replacing Geoff Feltoe and Mkhululi Nyathi, who resigned in 2013.

The public must include all Zimbabweans. Lip service is affecting our reputation which already is bad according to the outside world. Bob and co must surely realise their supreme reign is coming to an end so they must exit in an orderly fashion not bambazonke style.
