Mashonaland West Province is set to exceed its Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) target, which stands at 460 000 as it already has 225 000 people registered so far. Addressing a provincial consultative committee meeting, ZANU-PF provincial chairperson Cde Ephraim Chengeta said as a province they were ecstatic about the figure of people who had registered so far and there are high hopes that they are going to exceed the provincial target.

He said Hurungwe and Kariba have registered 120 000 people so far with Zvimba and Makonde having registered 125 000. He, however, urged party members to continue mobilising people to go and register in their numbers.

“It’s everyone responsibility to persuade each other to go to register as no one must be left out, so let’s play our part and make sure people register,” said Cde Chengeta. He said that in areas where ZEC had moved on, people who have not yet registered must go and register at the new points.

Lands and Rural Resettlement Minister Dr Douglas Mombeshora said that those who do not have national IDs and birth certificates should go and get them while they are still being issued for free by the Registrar-General under an exercise that ends on December 10.

“All those who are yet to take national IDs and birth certificates must make sure they do end this month as from next month they will be required to pay come the tenth of December,” said Dr Mombeshora.
