SADC summit shock

Analysts and politicians have condemned the Southern African Development Community’s decision to appoint Zimbabwe to the post of deputy chair before the country’s electoral dispute is settled. Malawian President Joyce Banda took over the Chair of the regional bloc at the recent Lilongwe summit and President Robert Mugabe will take over from her at the end of Malawi’s one year term. This means Harare will host the 2014 SADC Summit. As deputy chair, Zimbabwe will become part of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security.

Political analyst Rejoice Ngwenya said SADC leaders had exposed themselves as incapable of dealing with the Zimbabwean crisis. “SADC is an institution that has overwhelming evidence questioning the legitimacy of the election of Mugabe. They never said the elections were credible, but only said that they were free and fair. They have shown that they are incapable of being the referee in this situation.

“By appointing Mugabe to this post, it’s like appointing the village bully to be the class monitor. This will actually worsen the situation for Zimbabwe,” he said.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition spokesperson, Thabani Nyoni, said SADC had set a bad precedent by recognizing Mugabe who won in elections “that do not qualify to be labelled as credible”.

“We are shocked that Zimbabwe, a country that was under the curatorship of SADC, has now been turned into a country providing leadership in SADC. There is an element of contradiction within SADC itself in that regard. What they have done is that they have set a bad precedent because that pattern will be followed in other countries that go for elections with Zimbabwe leading SADC. The body has failed to inspire confidence in Zimbabwe and the region as well,” said Nyoni.

Kurauone Chihwayi, the deputy spokesman of the MDC led by Welshman Ncube said it a sad development .

“SADC said the elections were free and peaceful and we agree with that. But they should have addressed the issue of credibility and fairness before taking this decision. The election did not give equal access and opportunities to all parties,” he said, adding that SADC had rubber stamped Mugabe’s fraudulent victory against the wishes of Zimbabweans who were “robbed during the elections”.

How dare those Imperialist bootlickers call the emperor of SADC a tyrant? Is it so wrong to use diamond money to ensure that people vote correctly? People had to be re-educated to know that a correct vote will make $1 trillion instantly pour out of the ground and make our country greater than the US and Europe combined. What is so wrong about making the ends justify the means?

Hopefully you are facetious and not an amoral idiot.

If SADC, the AU, the EU, the UN, the US, and the Commonwealth aren’t doing anything, then that obviously means there is absolutely no problem whatsoever in Zimbabwe, and that the country is perfect.

Of course I’m trying to be facetious. Being amoral helps a lot too, given how my fellow Zimbos don’t seem to care that much about their own country either.

What I can’t understand is why everyone is upset by this development. It’s the cherry on the cake after SADC shepherded the MDC into oblivion and saved ZanuPF from extinction. Mugabe knows too much about the bad things people like Zuma have done in their past. Zuma buckled perfectly in submission to Mugabe. Mugabe knows too much and holds it over certain SADC leaders so they comply. No one gives a damn about the people. It’s about power at all costs. It’s okay if blacks oppress and slaughter blacks. No one cares.

local politics is at play here. No organisation in its right mind would endorse something(in this case elections) that goes against its OWN roadmap/charter. what sadc has done is idefensible and they know it and yet they still plod on defiantly. “to hell with the zimbabwean people, viva mugabe”is the motto for sadc. there is more at play here and the way i see it is people with dirty hands protecting other people with dirty hands. mark my words, this decision will haunt sadc in the future. they have shown themselves to be unreliable and untrustworthy.

(Oops! previous typo) but I love this –

……Mugabe and his family decided to go on vacation to celebrate the Nikuv Win.

Grace, his wife, John, his son and Sarah his daughter wanted to go to the Bahamas but Bob wanted to go to Dubai. So the 4 decided to vote and the result was as follows:

    Bahamas: 3
    Dubai: 68
