ZANU PF MP for Masvingo urban Daniel Shumba has been evicted from a house he was renting in the posh residential suburb of Rhodene over non- payment of rentals.

The order was given at the Masvingo civil court on Tuesday with the politician also ordered to vacate number 12 Mahogany Avenue in Rhodene and pay the outstanding arrears by 31 January.

The legislator had a lease agreement with a prominent Masvingo businessman Emanuel Tanda Tavaruva of the Mhunga bus service fame and had agreed to pay a monthly rental fee of $650.

In court papers filed at the court, under case number 1843/14 Tavaruva said the politician had broken the lease agreement as he had defaulted in paying his rentals since last year.

Tavaruva, through his lawyer Rodrick Makause of Saratoga law chambers, also sought for the cancellation of the lease agreement with the Zanu PF MP which was also granted.

The legislator did not turn up for the hearing but was represented by Philip Shumba of the Mutendi and Shumba legal practitioners and did not object in defaulting paying his rentals but asked to be refunded a security fee he paid when he moved into the house.

Tavaruva was seeking $1 950 from the legislator including costs of the suit but the amount was reduced to $1300 after Shumba’s legal counsel objected to meeting the cost of the law suit.

Since his election to parliament in 2013, Shumba has been accused by voters of neglecting the constituency and is rarely seen in Masvingo urban despite promising to work with locals in the development of the area.

Voters accuse him of only having political interests in Masvingo yet he is concentrating on his business empire elsewhere.
