A University of Zimbabwe (UZ) student has been charged with rape after he allegedly forced himself on a colleague.
Panashe Mazhazhate (22) was remanded out of custody to November 30 on US$100 bail by Harare magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa last week.
Prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti alleged that on an unknown date in October this year and at the UZ’s NC1 hostel, Mazhazhate allegedly had sexual intercourse with the complainant without her consent.
On another day during the same month, Muzhazhate allegedly had sexual intercourse again with the complainant without consent in the same room .
The matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest.

The story smells a rate. Could this not be a relationship gone sour? I can imagine a university student being raped by a colleague (in some Hostle room, on Campus) and do nothing about the rape – no report to police. Then go back to the same room or allow the male into the same room on another occasion (I assume complainant is a female who could not be sharing the room with a male) & get raped for the second time. Then only after the 2nd rape, on an unknown day/date, she saw it fit to report the accused. Uuuuuuummmmmm yaaaa zvinowanikwa hazvo. But handizvitarisiri from a University student – given level of knowledge & age of the complainant. Kusatozikanwa kwemaDates acho kunotoratidza kuti pazvaiitika the complainant did care much about the incidents, just to say the least; & did not consider them worth reporting to police or even anyone. Clearly the reporting is was just an after thought. So what triggered it; the “Rape” or simply some sour grapes?
