Zanu-pf Harare Province has recommended the expulsion and suspension of 25 senior provincial members following votes of no confidence passed against them last year.

The recommendations were made after a meeting held on Wednesday at the provincial headquarters by the Provincial Co-ordinating Committee.

The PCC recommended that Cdes Noah Mangondo, Tendayi Savanhu, Boniface Karoro, Right Banda, Amos Bernard Midzi, Christopher Chigumba, Angeline Matambanadzo, Prince Shinya, Torongo Torongo, Tongai Nheta, Brian Hwenjere, Andrew Tiriboyi, Munyaradzi Mugomedza, Olivia Mususa and Tendayi Diwa be fired from the party.

It also recommended that Cdes Miriam Chikukwa, Sabina Mangwende, Edith Kagoro, Tsitsi Jadagu, Idah Mashonganyika, Albertina Bwititi, Varaidzo Mupunga, Eva Chaneta, Susan Chuma and Clyde Mutero be suspended for five years.

Addressing party supporters yesterday, zanu-pf Harare provincial chairman Cde Goodwills Masimirembwa said the cases were segmented into two categories by order of their gravity in terms of the party constitution.

Those recommended for suspension are in category A which is for very serious cases and those to be expelled are in category B which is for extremely serious cases.

“We, the members of zanu-pf Harare Provincial Coordinating Committee convened at the provincial headquarters on the 8th of April 2015 in pursuit of the above and to review the votes of no confidence passed against several provincial members towards the end of the year 2014 in accordance with the party’s constitution and subsequently forward recommendations for consideration by the Politburo,” Cde Masimirembwa said.

He said offences committed by those in category A constituted acts of gross misconduct and it was recommended that they be suspended from the membership of the party.

“This is consistent with the provisions of Article 28 Section 267 (b) of the Party’s Constitution which states thus, “A member or office holder on whom a vote of no confidence has been passed by an appropriate organ; shall be suspended from the membership of the party for a period of five years from the date on which the vote of no confidence was passed, if the said vote is on the grounds of gross misconduct”,” he said.

Cde Masimirembwa said offences committed by those recommended for expulsion constituted acts of disloyalty and treachery and they should be expelled from the party.

“They should be expelled from the party consistent with Article 28 Section 267 (C) of the party’s constitution which provides thus; “A member or office holder on whom a vote of no confidence has been passed by an appropriate organ; shall be expelled from the party from the date on which the vote of no confidence was passed, if the vote of no confidence is on the grounds of disloyalty or treachery,” he said.

Cde Masimirembwa said the PCC recommended that the names of the offenders be submitted to the National Disciplinary Committee for final consideration by the Politburo.

He said most of the people on the list were linked to former Vice President Dr Joice Mujuru, who wanted to oust President Mugabe.

Dr Mujuru was expelled from zanu-pf last week on the back of a slew of allegations, among them attempting to illegally remove President Mugabe from power, corruption, colluding with the party’s enemies and sowing divisions in the ruling party.

A number of zanu-pf officials in provinces had votes of no confidence passed on them in the run-up to the party’s 6th National People’s Congress in December last year as they were deemed to be working against President Mugabe and the party.
