According to a notice by the Master of the High Court, various properties will be sold after he engaged Liquidators Foresight Wealth Management Services to sell the items via public auction at the late governor’s Rukobu Farm in Mashonaland West.

The notice did not, however, disclose who Samkange owed and how much was involved.

“We shall sell by public auction the following movable property namely farm equipment of the estate of the late honourable Nelson Samkange IR5/14 in situ on Wednesday November 16, 2016,” part of the notice read.

The former governor, who was declared a provincial hero, died in 2013 and was buried at his farm in Zvimba.

President Robert Mugabe attended the funeral then and described him as a failed farmer who had ruined his farm.

“He had gotten a plum farm at Rukoba, which he again failed to fully utilise. Maybe farming was not his calling and probably the frustration over the poor productivity at his farm could have killed him. He certainly needed a manager,” Mugabe said then.

Among the items to go under hammer, according to the notice, include a Massey Ferguson combine harvester, air compressor, woodworking machine, tractors and vehicles.

The auction will also see cattle being sold.

A number of top Zanu PF leaders have been accused of failing to put their farms into use with some of the owing financial institutions large sums of money.

Last year, property worth thousands of dollars was seized from former Zanu PF provincial chairman (now Norton MP) Temba Mliswa’s farm after he allegedly failed to repay a $2,7 million loan from CBZ Bank.

Former Cabinet minister Amos Midzi was also overwhelmed by debt when he committed suicide.

Jailed former Bikita West MP Munyaradzi Kereke last year lost his Range Rover vehicle for failing to settle a debt of over $103 000 for agricultural inputs that Windmill (Pvt) Limited supplied to his Pamene Farm near Norton.

Former central bank governor Gideon Gono also lost property including livestock for failing to pay debts running into several millions.

But did he buy those things or invaded them. Why not give them to their rightful owner
