MDC-T President Morgan Tsvangirai’s spokesperson, Luke Tamborinyoka and several other MDC-T employees have been admitted to hospital after they were severely assaulted by police details at Harvest house on Wednesday night.

Addressing journalists at the Bulawayo Press club last night Tsvangirai said heavily armed police descended on the offices yesterday, accusing the party’s staff of stealing their helmet.

“I have just received the news that Harvest House offices are under siege from police. They condoned off the offices this afternoon claiming that they are looking for their lost helmet” said Tsvangirai.

The MDC –T president said at the time of the raid, 11 party staff members were in the building.

“From the information which I have just received it seems Tamborinyoka is the most critically injured person during the attack.

Some staff members were also injured. This barbaric behavior should be condemned in the strongest terms. The demon of 2008 is certainly back” said Tsvangirai.

The ex-prime minister has been forced to cut short his visit to the city following the incident.

According to Tsvangirai’s itinerary released by the party on Wednesday, the MDC-T president was expected to tour some of the city’s high density suburbs today before holding a breakfast meeting with various stakeholders at a local hotel.

He was also expected to address a rally at Stanley Square.

“The president has cancelled all his engagement in the city. He is now rushing back to Harare to see the injured staff.” Tabitha Khumalo, the party” national deputy spokesperson told The Zimbabwean last night.
