VICE president Phelekezela Mphoko said the law must be changed to allow castration of rapist, adding it was high time that such tough sentences were discussed at party (Zanu PF) level to end scourge.
He said this while addressing Zanu PF party supporters gathered at Mushayavanhu School in Masvingo province for First Lady Grace Mugabe rally.
Mphoko becomes the second top Zanu PF official to propose castration for rape.
Last year his boss President Robert Mugabe also suggested castration for child rapist, lamenting that the problem was rampant in the country.
Before introducing First Lady to address the gathering, Mphoko took time to warn rapists and urge tougher sentences.
“About people who rape children from ages 1 to 15 years, such people should be castrated; 16 to 65 life imprisonment. (If they are aged) 66 to 100, castrate them.
“Let’s talk about this issue in the party until the problem ends.”
In 2013 while addressing parliament President Mugabe expressed concern over the increasing cases of adults abusing minors.
“Vana baba chenjerai, (adults beware), we are going to make it very, very tough for you. No molestation of youngsters; no molestation of women,” Mugabe said then.
He said it was time to consider tougher sentences, adding that he was open to castration for rapists.
In June last year while addressing delegates at World Blood Donor Day commemorations in Chinhoyi First Lady, Grace Mugabe called for the beheading of rapists saying they cause permanent trauma to their victims.
