THE trial of Prosecutor-General Johannes Tomana on charges of criminal abuse of public office is now set to commence on June 1, after his lawyers were served with the relevant court papers yesterday.

by PAIDAMOYO MUZULU

Tomana was arrested in January this year on allegations of having illegally withdrawn sabotage charges levelled against two military intelligence officers, Silas Pfukwa and Solomon Makumbe, both linked to an attempted plot to bomb Alpha and Omega Dairy plant in Mazowe plant.

The State alleges Tomana had been externally influenced to drop the charges against the two.

The charges against Pfukwa and Makumbe have since been reinstated.

Tomana’s lawyer Tazorora Musarurwa then applied for relaxation of his client’s reporting conditions.

Presiding magistrate Vakai Chikwekwe granted the application and ruled that Tomana should report once a fortnight to the Harare CID Law and Order section instead of once every week.
