VPs evil twins: Mzila Ndlovu

BULAWAYO – Newly-appointed acting secretary general of the Welshman Ncube-led MDC, Moses Mzila Ndlovu, has described Zimbabwe’s two vice presidents not just as alleged threats to national security and unity over their controversial recent utterances — including that on Gukurahundi — but also as “evil Siamese twins”.

The war veteran and former National Healing, Reconciliation and Integration minister slated VP Emmerson Mnangagwa over the Zanu PF strongman’s statements at the weekend that he was trained to kill.

Ndlovu said this declaration was reflective of how President Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF government continued to show no remorse on the widely condemned Gukurahundi massacres of the 1980s in which an estimated 20 000 innocent civilians were brutally murdered by the North Korean-trained Fifth Brigade in Matabeleland and the Midlands.

“His (Mnangagwa) remarks are a great insult to the victims of Gukurahundi, both dead and living and those that have been traumatised, maimed emotionally, mentally and physically.

“Because, some 30 years after   we lost our loved ones, we continue to feel threatened. It is like this threat will take us to our graves,” Ndlovu said.

He said it was very distressing that Mnangagwa’s controversial statement had come  hard on the heels of similar public utterances by VP Phelekezela Mphoko, who appeared to exonerate Mugabe and the government of any culpability relating to Gukurahundi, claiming that the killings were a Western conspiracy.

“It is time Zimbabweans realised the evil Siamese twins of the two Vice Presidents Phelekezela Mphoko and Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“On one hand we have Mphoko making reckless and false claims that Gukurahundi was a conspiracy of the West, but immediately here is his counterpart coming out directly to contradict him, proving that Zanu PF orchestrated it,” he said.

Ndlovu, who has been consistently outspoken on issues pertaining to the massacres, said it was clear that “these Siamese twins” were out to not only intimidate the people of Zimbabwe, but also to keep reminding them that even if they knew that Zanu PF had committed the atrocities nothing would happen to ruling party bigwigs.

“To have a people so high in their ranks making such frightening statements is inexcusable in our view.

“This intimidation is typical of the tactic used by Zanu PF to rule this country through fear since independence,” Ndlovu said.
