Zimbabwe’s mines minister on Wednesday dissolved management boards of three government companies involved in diamond mining and trading.
The boards of the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation, Minerals Marketing Corporation and Marange Resources were all dismissed, although no reason was given for their sacking.
“The duties and functions of these boards will be assumed by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development Professor Francis Gudyanga until the appointment of new boards,” the minister Walter Chidhakwa said in a statement.
The dissolution coincides with the start of Zimbabwe’s first ever diamond auction in Antwerp, Belgium on Wednesday and will run until 16 December.
