Six MPs wreck new vehicles

At least six Members of Parliament have been involved in road accidents across the country in their top-of-the-range Ford Ranger vehicles barely weeks after they were delivered, a Cabinet minister said yesterday.

The legislators were among beneficiaries of the brand new all-terrain vehicles under the Parliamentary Vehicle Loan Scheme, through a deal hammered with Croco Motors at a cost of about US$10 million.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Dr Obert Mpofu told a meeting of driving school owners in Bulawayo that he was notified of the accidents by an insurance company charged with insuring the vehicles that started being released to the lawmakers last month.

“I was registering insurance for my vehicle for Parliament in Harare yesterday,” he said. “The insurance company told me that already more than six members have been involved in accidents with the vehicles after collection.

“A vehicle belonging to one Member of Parliament from Lupane overturned and rolled several times near Insuza when she was from collecting it from the showroom.”
Dr Mpofu did not disclose names of the other lawmakers involved in the accidents.

MPs started collecting the vehicles at the beginning of June which would be paid through their allowances.

And they call themselves legislators? You must learn to walk before you can learn how to drive.

They should name and shame those whose cars have been involved in accidents-transparancy -and how the accident occurred

Wonder how many of these “bought” their driving licenses.
Let them get to parly by Kombi. There is no shortage of that mode of transport

You can’t appreciate something when you get it for free!! How I would love to be able to afford a new car. Yet my taxes pay for this madness. Tired of this country – love being a Zimbo and proud of it but this is killing me!!

These village idiots must under training on how to drive 4×4 bakkies before attempting to drive one. That’s the rule in all parastatals in SA. At least SA still has standards and sanity despite the crime. Kkkkkkkk
