Minister Mpofu struggling to pay journalists at his newspaper

Transport Minister Obert Mpofu might have used an ongoing corruption trial to brag about his riches but Nehanda Radio understands the Zanu PF Umguza MP is struggling to pay journalists at his ‘The Zimbabwe Mail’ newspaper.

Last week journalists at the paper threatened not to report for work on Monday if their September salaries were not paid. When Mpofu got wind of the planned strike he dispatched one of the board members to go and promise a resolution.

The board member is said to have promised that the salaries would be paid on Thursday (last week) but nothing came. A source told Nehanda Radio what made things worse was that the CEO Nomsa Mpofu (Obert’s daughter) “is clueless.”

Another journalist at the paper said the late payment of their salaries had been going on for months and they had approached the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) who pledged to meet management on Wednesday.

The news of Mpofu failing to pay his workers comes as a surprise given that he was one of the main funders of Grace Mugabe’s rallies in Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and South.

“Mpofu literally took care of the delegation which included youth leaders and other senior leaders, paying for accommodation and giving them fuel,” a source told us.

Mpofu’s workers at Khanondo Safaris and Tours also went for some time without pay.

This also follows a trend set by flamboyant Harare businessman Philip Chiyangwa who never shies away from flaunting his wealth but struggles to pay his workers.

Thats not a surprise its the Zanu PF way they will use their fellow citizens (employees) and not pay them and are quick to flout their riches and show off. Zanu PF is about using others and supporting slavery nothing else. how they invite everyone to come and see how well they live in their double, triple stories with underground air condition and Zesa to supply a whole township while down the road povo wallops in poverty.

Hopw he does not bounce the check, it’s probably from his own bank, or mayb ehe could raise some funds by gambling in one of his casino’s? All this from a one off golden handshake after two years of working for a parastatal.
