Source: UPDATE: Mugabe says confined to home, but fine: Zuma – ENCA
Zuma said he spoke to Mugabe earlier on Wednesday, with the Zimbabwean leader indicating that “he was confined to his home but said that he was fine. South Africa is also in contact with the Zimbabwean Defence Force (ZDF).”
“The Special Envoys will also be sent to the Republic of Angola to the Republic of Angola to see President Joao Lourenco, Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security to brief him on the situation.
“President Zuma has reiterated his call for calm and restraint and for the ZDF to ensure that peace and stability are not undermined in Zimbabwe.
“SADC will continue to monitor the situation closely,” Zuma said.
Earlier, Zuma said he is greatly concerned by the political situation in Zimbabwe.
Zuma called for “calm and restraint” and “expressed hope that developments in Zimbabwe would not lead to unconstitutional changes of government as that would be contrary to both SADC and African Union positions.”
President Zuma urged Zimbabwe’s government and defence force to “resolve the political impasse amicably” and asked the military “to ensure that the maintenance of peace and security in the country is not compromised.”
Meanwhile, the Department of International Relations and Co-operation (DIRCO) said South Africa will not accept any coup attempts in Zimbabwe.
“The principles of the AU and that of the SADC region which we subscribe to as SA is we don’t accept or recognise any unconstitutional change of government… We would have to convene anything of the region to discuss any development if it was to go that route,” said DIRCO spokesperson, Clayson Monyela.
“The official statement we have says it’s not a military takeover. It’s a situation we are continuing to monitor very closely and I’ve said we calling for restraint and calm and our preference would be dialogue to resolve any challenge politically.”

COMMENTS
S.A. only want to intervene now, f— them, leave Zim alone, they let Zim degenerate into a basket economy, let this be a lesson to them, dictators will always fall.
This is wonderful news from Jacob. Zimbabwe is such a living treasure of Africa. Perhaps our ever gracious and honest Jacob should give dear Robert a safe haven in South Africa? I wonder if Jacob and Robert might discuss the commission on the alleged US$10 million found in cash at dear old Ignatius Chombo’s house in Harare? I wonder how much they will find in Jonathan, Saviour and Grace’s mattress? Jacob will then be able to discuss the brighter side of his and Robert’s love life? The fact that a mistress is something that goes between mister dictator and a mattress?
It is such a relief to know that Robert is okay. The whole world has been really worried about our living treasure….
